Spirit of Scotland Pipe Band

Niall Matheson who comes from Newtonmore in the Badenoch and Strathspey area of the Highlands was originally taught by the great John Macdougall and also Dr Kenneth Mackay of Laggan.

Niall has won the Gold Medal’s at both the Northern Meetings and Oban as well as the Gold Medal at Breamar twice and also the Donald Macdonald Quaich. He has also been placed in the Clasp and Senior Piobaireachd on more than eight occasions in the last eight year’s and has been a prolific prize winner round the highland games circuit for a great number of year’s.

Niall served twelve year’s in the Queen’s Own Highlanders where he gained the Pipe Major’s certificate with distinction and has been the piping instructor for the Highland Council Education department for the last 12 year’s taking over from the great John Burgess.

Niall is also the owner of Cabarfeidh Bagpipe Supplies in Inverness.
