Jenny Hazzard

Jenny was brought up in Toronto, Canada, and became involved in highland arts largely by accident. She attended highland dancing lessons with a neighbourhood friend, aged five, which led to her older brothers taking up the pipes and drums. Eventually Jenny saw the light and began to play the pipes at nine years old, taught from the start by Michael Grey of Toronto. After stints with the grade two Newmarket Pipe Band and Glengarry Pipe Band, she joined the 78th Fraser Highlanders in 1992. After eight seasons with the 78th, Jenny and her husband Colin MacLellan moved to Scotland and joined the Lothian and Borders Police Pipe Band, where they played for five years, eventually leaving the world of pipe bands in 2004…until now.

Jenny’s solo piping successes include the Silver Medal at Inverness, the Metro Cup in New York, the March Strathspey and Reel at the Maxville Gold Medal competition, and the aggregate winner at Dunrobin Castle. In 2008 she will compete in the Gold Medal and A-grade light music at the Argyllshire Gathering and Northern Meeting.

Outside of piping, Jenny is an Associate Director with an environmental and engineering consultancy business in Edinburgh.
