Jason Paguio
From San Diego, California, Jason Paguio began drum majoring in 2000 at the age of 14. A year later he became the California State Grand Champion for the high school marching band solo competition circuit and was also awarded the Juvenile Championship for the Western United States Pipe Band Association (WUSPBA). In 2004, Jason traveled to Glasgow, Scotland where he became the Juvenile World Champion Drum Major. Marking his third year competing in the adult division, Jason was undefeated in America, claiming several 1st place awards leading up to the World Championships. That same year in Glasgow, Scotland, Jason qualified for the first time as a finalist for the adult division at the World Championships. With his performance in the final round, he made international history by becoming the first American and drum major outside the United Kingdom to have ever won the World Championships.
Jason’s approach to drum majoring is unique: combining the marching, deportment and drills used in the Scottish competition circuit together with adapted mace flourishing styles used in the American circuit. Exploring new and different potentials, he takes an athletic approach by focusing on fitness; using personal trainers, flexibility, and weight training in order to provide a solid foundation for his technique. Jason hopes to advance and influence the sport in a positive direction.
Outside of competing, Jason is a Managing Partner and founder of Regimental Mace Company, LLC (www.regimentalmaceco.com), a company which utilizes a scientific and modern approach to engineering and the production drum major equipment. He also is the founder and Co-Director of the International Drum Major Institute (www.idminstitute.com) which has taught hundreds of students since its inception in 2005. More recently, Jason co-founded the non-profit organisation, World Drum Major Association, Inc. and serves as its Executive Director.
