Curt Watts

Curt lives in North Vancouver, British Columbia with his wife Sarah, and their 2 year old daughter Robyn and they are also expecting their second child in December. He enjoys home renovating, playing golf and brewing his own beer.

Curt had been drumming for over 20 years and competing since he was big enough to carry a drum. The Highland world is in the family genes, with his eldest sister a piper at the judging level, and his middle sister a World Champion dancer. After a few years of following his sisters to the games, it was no surprise Curt picked up the drums and started playing along.

His competitive drumming career started in 1990 when he joined the White Spot Pipe band. Two years later became lead drummer of their grade 3 offshoot, and then moved up to play lead tip with Maple Ridge Legion grade 2. From 1995 to 1999 he went on to play with the grade 1 Abbotsford Police Pipe Band, competing at Worlds with them in 97 & 99. In 2000 Curt joined the grade 3 Crow Creek Pipe Band in Alaska as a playing instructor and also played with them at the Worlds in 2001.

In 2005, Curt became the lead drummer of the newly formed Grade 3 Greighlan Crossing Pipe Band, from Maple Ridge BC. Recruiting all the drummers, and having written all the drum scores, Greighlan is really making a name for themselves in the British Columbia Piping Association.

Curt has also been teaching drumming for the past 11 years and has traveled all over the West Coast of British Columbia, to Alaska and also the Pacific North West of the United States to teach seminars for various bands. He has several regular individual students and also teaches at the Coeur d’Alene Summer School of Piping and Drumming.

Curt is excited to return to Worlds again, this time under the lead of his very own drumming teacher and mentor, John Fisher.
