Charlie Cablish
Charlie started drumming at the age of 10 and by the time he was 15 years old he was a drum instructor at the Mel Bay Music Studio in St. Louis, MO. Following a trip to Scotland he developed an interest in Pipe Band drumming and has been involved with pipe bands ever since.
His first formal pipe band instruction came from William Greenlees who had been the leading drummer with the Bowhill Colliery Pipe Band in Scotland. He began attending the Balmoral School of Piping and Drumming in 1979 where he received tuition from Alex Duthart, the major influence on his drumming
style. Additional influences have been Bert Barr, Jim Kilpatrick and John Fisher. He played under D/M James King in the Kansas City St. Andrews Pipe Band and has been the leading drummer for the Invera’an Pipe Band, North Texas Caledonia Pipe Band and the St. Louis Caledonian Pipe Band. He has
served on the drumming adjudication panels of both the Midwest Pipe Band Association and the Eastern United States Pipe Band Association. He is also the percussion section leader for the Association for Instrumental Music in St. Louis, MO where he lives with his wife, Susan, and two children, Christopher and Kaitlin.
